               Ms. C’s Second Week

Wow! What a wonderful second week with my kinders. This week was filled with a lot of different, exciting things to discover and learn about! It is wonderful to see that excitement the kids have while learning. This is a glimpse of what we were up to this week, take a look:

We have done research in the library over what animals live on a farm through books! Here is some of our lovely friends listening to some farm books.

This is where the students used QR codes to take them to the internet to answer questions about the different farm animals. They were better than I was at figuring out how to scan those codes! One friend said, “It’s so easy Ms. C, here let me show you how to do this. You can sit in my chair.” Who said students can’t teach!
Here is a closer look at the QR scanner and the sheets of paper with the questions the students had to answer through research. They did marvelous!
At this station the students used I Pads to build their own farms! They had so much fun planting crops and taking care of the animals. When you get an extra moment or need a laugh ask your child how the voice on the app said tomatoes. I feel like they planted a whole field of tomatoes just to hear the voice on the app say it over and over.

Loving Science!

It is great to see the kids really loving science. We talked about the body parts of animals on the farm. This included the similarities/differences of the animals on the farm. Ask your child what animals in a pig family are or what are some products we get from chickens? I am sure they would love to fill you in.

We ended the week with our Funny Farm. The students had a blast combining two animals together to make a new one. We have some very creative students that is for sure!
Here is one friend combining chicken parts with cow parts. His new name for this fabulous animal-  A cHoW.

Again, here is another look at our FUNNY FARM! I love the PICKEN in the picture. Priceless!

Our buckaroo
Our friend here finished his Buckaroo week with a great show and tell. He brought his favorite toy, Mr. Buzz Lightyear. What a great time the class had talking and asking questions about Buzz.

Look at our lovely buckaroo and buzz. So sweet!...

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!!
Sincerely,
Ms. C

Science...

SOIL...
Our first investigation was all about discovering everyday things that are made from rocks!!

We were investigating all things soil.  We found all sorts of things...WE also found that not all soils look or feel the same.

READing Night

Buckaroo Abby and I enjoying a night of reading!

These Kinders and First Graders got a chance to listen to Mr. I reading!

Reading by flashlight and the Robertson campgrounds!

One of my former Firsties...Still loving his reading!

Mrs. Hempkins and Ms. Weinke were getting Little Colton started early!

Another former Firstie who learned to LOVE reading last year!
She is helping her future Kinder sister to find the same love!

Book exchange was going strong!

We were all there having lots of fun!

Abby and mom are reading by the campfire!

 Ms. C (Cernosek)

Ms. C even got into the spirit and did some reading to those kinders and firsties who wanted to hear a fun story!

February...

In reading we were talking about characters and the reasons for their actions as well as character traits.  We integrated this into SS Black History Month.

We used our BUBBLE MAP to describe our Characters: Martin Luther King, Jr. and Ruby Bridges.

Dr. King made a speech because he was dedicated to making changes, hard working, fair, loving, kind and helpful.  Even though famous and handsome describe Dr. Martin Luther King they do not give us a reason for making his speech.
We think that Ruby Bridges went to school every day (even though it was hard and scary) because she was in 1st grade, helping others be able to get an education, brave, proud, brown, sad, important, alone, and confident!  All of these describe Ruby and give us a reason for her actions!

WOW...I think this is some GREAT thinking for my littles...
This is something that you can do with your little one and the books they read at home!

100th Day of School...

Now, this is a catch up post...but we sure did have lots of fun that day!  We explored all sorts of 100's!

Some of our VERY cool 100th day projects.  It was a lot of fun to see how everyone organized their 100!!

These were shared during the week of the 100th day...
ON the 100th DAY
This is probably the CUTEST part of the whole day!  I love all my friends from the GERIATRIC WARD!
Table Rotations...If we have 5 people in a group and each group needs to put on 100 "things"...how many does each person need to add...Well, if everyone put on 10...10, 20, 30, 40, 50...that would not be enough! Then one of my little SMARTIES said...BUT 50 is 1/2 of 100. So, together we worked it out that everyone in each group needed to add 20 "things"!
Have you ever tried to stack 100 solo cups!  WE DID...it wasn't easy!

100 pieces of sausage on our pizza!

100 fish in our bowl!

100 cherries on our sundae!
100 gumballs in our gumball machine!

dernuH...our 100th day snack. We had
10 different snacks...We had to put
10 of each in our bag!!!

Let's write about what kind of 100 year olds we will be!
HMMM...no one said I will be a kindergarten teacher!
We had a GREAT day learning all about the number 100!
