Buck A Roo
Today Mom came in and had a great lunch with our Buck A Roo!!! But before I could take the picture...Jakson wanted to make sure I was REALLY 100 years old! Yes...(at least that's what it feels like many days...) and this year I'll be 101!!! My littles keep me YOUNG!

Yesterday Jakson read his book to the class!

We watch a video click here about The Pilgrims and their voyage to a new land.  We found out that they sailed here on the Mayflower and it was NOT an easy trip! After discussing the trip we made our own Mayflower!  Some littles even added the pilgrim that fell overboard but was rescued! (I love these babes)

Our problem solving went a little like this today! A pilgrim went fishing.  ("I knew it) He caught 9 fish. Some were spotted and some were striped. How many were spotted and how many were striped? It is amazing to me...that all I needed to do was read the problem and these little buck a roos got RIGHT to it!!! Just a little decomposing of numbers all in a kindergarten day! YES...you read it right!!! DECOMPOSING...that is the vocabulary we use to show we are breaking a number apart!!!
This is ONE TABLES work!
And this is with LITTLE help at all from this teacher!  I JUST LOVE IT!!! We had so many GREAT answers! One little one whipped through the pictoral part of the solving and said, "Can I just go ahead and write my number sentence?" WOWZERS....

With that...you all have a wonderful evening!

Some things I forgot!

I'm very upset...(with myself) we were in the process of our funny birds so I didn't get to take a picture! BUT we had two GREAT moms here yesterday morning helping us get ready for our feast! Thank you Mrs. Peregrine and Mrs. Taylor!!! We couldn't do everything without parents like you!

Monday, Monday!

On Friday we had our first Celebration of Learning!
Mrs. Grayard (our computer teacher) led us in a fun song Tony Chesnut!!! Lots and lots of laughs!

Our friends were recognized as Hippest in the HOUSE for exemplifying Responsibility and Courage/Integrity!

Color poems and words...we have finished all the colors for this year!
Poetry:
And to go along with our turkey poem we made some FUNNY birds!!!

I love how each one has it's own personality!!! So much fun.  This was a lesson in listening and following directions!  I am so impressed with my LITTLES!!!

This week we are looking at NOW and THEN...
Today we talked Past and Present! And how things compare.  We did a sort...
Can you guess which one is present and which is past? The littles did a GREAT job!

Math:
We started talking about subtraction and using a take away mat to show what happens to a number when we subtract.  We discovered it gets smaller.
At our tub time...these kiddos are doing a great job with ONE more and TWO more.  They roll the die then they have to figure out what is one or two more than the number on the die!!!

I love how they encourage and help one another to figure out the answer!!

Science:
Today we started talking about the seasons...I put on my winter coat and bundled up and started to read a book...YES, they thought I was crazy..."She's cold!, She's going to get HOT in here with that one..." and sure enough I did get hot. I asked them if I should change into my tank top, shorts and flip flops and they giggled...but decided that wasn't the best outfit for today either!  (This is a DIFFICULT topic living here in TEXAS!)  We decided that pants and t-shirts are best for this weather and be sure to have a light jacket...just in case!  I told them I was going to show them 4 pictures. Then I was going to give them little pictures to sort...But that's all I told them.
After all was sorted we talked about the seasons and what they were called and how HOT or COLD it was during that season.  Not many knew SPRING...we will need to keep working on that one! I drew the "thermometers" and we talked about what would come next based on what they saw...(just threw in a little patterning...) Once we figured out the pattern some one said, "IT'S A CYCLE!" Wow!!! just like the days of the week and the pumpkin...I LOVE their connections!

Have a wonderful evening!

What a fun night last night!  I woke up singing I Like Thanksgiving...And thinking about all the littles and their families I am thankful for! One more week and it's holiday time!  As much as I will miss all of these little ones I'm so excited to be at home with my favorite boys and to start our yearly holiday traditions!!!

Program Night

All the little pilgrim, indians and turkeys are all PRACTICED out and ready to PERFORM!!! See you all there...My little indians need to be in the gym by 6:15!!!
Please remember that after the performance all children will go back to the gym...We will collect feathers, and tshirts! Then you may take them from there!

Today our Buck A Roo had a special lunch with her daddy!
Love those smiles!!!

I think I have gotten to all my reading groups this week and everyone should have had some new books come home!  WOW...I love listening to my littles read and make connections!  They use their Good Reader's Tool Kit (fix em up strategies) SO WELL!!! Please remember READING is homework every night!  Those sight words should be second nature!!!

In math we are working on addition within 10.  We are working towards that pictoral stage!  Today we read Domino Addition

Then we gave this a try on our own!

Great job Buck A Roos!!!

SEE YOU TONIGHT!

Week of November 11

We have a new Buck A Roo in room 313!

Mrs. O'Hearn came in and talked to us about Leadership and Being Bucket Fillers!

I think some great friendships are forming in our classroom this year! They are a GREAT bunch of Buck A Roos!

We are getting back into the groove of things with Guided Reading JUST in time for the holidays.  I am LOVING my small group reading time. The progress in these few short weeks just makes my heart SMILE!!! Sponges I say SPONGES!!!

Math time is full of addition and subtraction within 10!

And our afternoon is practicing for our Thanksgiving performance! It's going to be so cute!!! When you all get here (EARLY if you want a great seat...) we are on the LEFT side if you are looking at the stage!

Day 12...I am so thankful for this bunch of littles and their families.  They fill my heart with smiles each and everyday!
Have a great evening!

The Day After...

...HALLOWEEN!

We had a delightful day!!!

HOMEWORK...
Turkey in Disguise!! If for some reason...something "happens" to your turkey homework...Ms. K has loaded them onto the Robertson Kindergarten Website GOBBLE GOBBLE it is the last document loaded under Parent Resources! I'm so excited about this project...the past 7 years I have admired the creativity of our Kinder families! NOW I get to say, "YEP, that's mine!"

Boosterthon:
Our TWO newest CAMPERS!!!
They are so proud to be wearing their boosterthon bands!

Buck A Roo
Show and Tell is always by FAR the BEST day of the Buck A ROOS week!

Today we had "Favorite Squeaky Characters"...I'm definitely out of the LOOP...I've got NO idea who the Sqeaky's are!!! But they are ALMOST as cute as this little Buck A Roo!

Next Week!
I will be out Monday and Tuesday! I have a district meeting to attend! I so wish I was going to be here!!! Keep those pledges coming in!  Ms. K's class is pulling WAY ahead!!!

SCIENCE
We played a COOL game today...(I'll give you a little break down...but DEFINITELY ask your little to tell you about it...)
I started by telling them they were all going to be plants (seeds) I scattered brown, blue, white and yellow paper all over the ground.  I told my little seeds to walk around (blowing in the wind) when I told them to stop that is where they landed. They could NOT move from that spot but had to pick up 4 pieces of paper.  As they showed me the paper 2 browns, a  blue and a yellow...4 blues, 2 yellows and 2 browns...etc  I had to tell them, "I'm sorry little seed you did not survive."  They had to go back to their seat.  After a couple rounds I heard lots of discussion at their seats..."why do they still get to play?" "He has 1 of each color." "That's not fair, I'm always out."  At this point once I saw that some of the seeds were starting to look for 1 of each color and the other seeds were noticing that that was was kept them "IN THE GAME" we talked about why those seeds got to stay in...AND right away they caught on...The yellow was the sun, the blue water, the brown soil and the White (well that one was more difficult) but have no fear one of my buckaroos finally said AIR!!! Those are all the things a plant NEEDS to survive! So then we played again...This time everyone got all four the first couple of rounds...but as they collected them I started to take some of it away...WE had A LOT of plants "fighting" for the same things... and the strongest ones the ones who landed where there were things they needed SURVIVED!  What a powerful lesson!  When we were cleaning up...one friend asked, "Where are the roots?"  That led us to another conversation.  What a plant NEEDS and the PARTS of a plant!  We decided that if a seed gets everything it needs then it can grow its roots, stem, leaves and flowers!
Once again...it's days like this that remind me why I LOVE LOVE LOVE this profession.

Have a wonderful weekend!
