We have had a GREAT week. I am so impressed with these little buckaroos...they are quickly adjusting to classroom and school procedures!

Poetry
Today we started our day with our poem...

Reader's Workshop
We practiced pointing to the words as we "read"!  We then talked about sight words we saw in our poem.  Red is underlined with a red crayon!! BUT WAIT...someone noticed that the words "I" and "can" are also in our poem...what a great observation. We traced around our sight words with a black crayon!
THEN...we got our very OWN Red Book!  And it's a book we can READ! We went through and underlined all the words that said "red" with our red crayon and then put them in our reading baggies.

We will keep familiar reads in our book baggies.  These are books we can read independently or with a buddy.  After we put them in our baggie we put them in our CHAIR POCKET...This was a big deal. We had been wondering what that thing was for!

Then we started working in "stations"  (small groups working on different activities)! Today we worked in ABC, Word Work and Library!\

Writer's Workshop
When we returned from Lunch it was Writer's Workshop time.  Today we practiced "writing" by drawing a picture. Making sure our picture included three important elements: Character (who), Setting (where), Event (what).  We learned a new word...STAMINA...we will be working on building writing stamina. Today we wrote quietly, by ourselves for about 5 min. "BUT I'm NOT DONE!" It was okay. Good writers always go back and add to a piece they have already started.  After writing we had a short sharing time.  Listen to our great stories!  Just wait until we start writing those stories!

MATH
After Writer's Workshop we moved on to Math Workshop.  Today we added another blue dot to our second 5 frame.  So...I asked how many red dots "FIVE" How many blue dots "TWO"...How many dots. It took a little more thought but we finally came to 7!  We looked at what 7 looked like on our fingers as well (just another way to show 7).

During number talks we are using 5 frames and dots as well.  I will show them a five frame and ask them what they see. "1 and 1 and 1, 3"  "2 and 1, 3" And today we noticed something very COOL!  "1 and 2 and it was STILL 3" This carried over into our workshop time.

I love when little ones make CONNECTIONS!!!

Today we played two different games after our mini lesson and taking "Daily Class Attendance"

Isabella counted 22 chairs.  Addison counted 21 students.  So if we match up the chairs to students we found we had 21 students HERE today.  One chair was left with no one sitting in it...That meant 1 student was absent! Chase is our recorder!

We played Domino Parking Lot and Game Board Fun!

Lots of learning going on! We are trying to subitize the dots both on dice and on dominoes (and if we can't we are counting the dots with some one to one correspondence!) Moving our game pieces helps with our 1 to 1.  Recognizing the written word and the numeral as well as the social skills of taking turns, working together and being a gracious WINNER OR LOSER!

Science
We reviewed some science rules today...

Thank you so much for sharing your little one with me! I love each and every one of them!  Enjoy your evening!
