After...

the long weekend!
This morning I was so excited to see my little buckaroos!  I missed them!
At 8:30 we went to visit Mrs. Biamont in the library. She is teaching us all about how to visit and how to take care of books!

It will be a "few" weeks until we learn all the procedures and are allowed to check out books!  When we do start bringing home a special book, Mrs. Biamont expects us to know how to take good care of it.  She does know accidents happen.  If there is an accident please let Mrs. Biamont try to fix it. If it can be fixed all is good. If it can't she will send home a note stating how much the book costs to be replaced.

After library we learned a new poem...sung to the tune of Are You Sleeping! (Thank goodness many knew this already...Ms Guy CAN'T sing!!!)

After reading/singing the poem several friends got to come up and find the word red in our poem.  We underlined it with a red crayon.  I asked them how they knew those words were red and most of them responded by telling me "the letters are the same as the ones that were red."  Great job! We also talked about the sound /r/ makes.

We practiced writing red and brainstormed things that are red!

This afternoon we made our sight word baggies. In your child's daily folder you will find his/her baggie. Inside the baggie is a note explaining what it is and how to use it! It needs to come to school EACH FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK (usually Monday)! We will be adding these words to our word wall for students to use during reading and writing throughout the year!

During math we noticed that the calendar had changed.  We talked about September being the 9th month so we use a 9 in the code date.  Today is Tuesday so it is the 3rd day and the year stayed the same. 9-3-13.  We had to add another 5 frame to our board. Everyone agreed that the first one was full so it had 5 dots. When I added another frame with one dot it meant we had been in school for 6 days!  One friend EVEN showed me with his hands what 6 looked like! (GREAT connection)

Today's mini lesson was about one to one correspondence.  We had to fill in a Daily Attendance Chart.  But first I need to know how to find out how many were in our class. LOTS of "COUNT everyone" So, that's what we did! We decided that touching each person as we counted made it easier since there were a lot of us!  We also discovered that no matter where you started you would get the same number! We have 22 friends and 22 were here today...So everyone agreed that those numbers matched so no one could be absent!

I love the discoveries these little ones make!

Science time. We reviewed what a scientist might study...WOWZERS...look at all we came up with!
Each student then drew a picture of them self as a scientist.  I will share more of those later! They are pretty amazing if I do say so myself!

Remember tonight is Curriculum night if you can make it at 5:30! We will be using Mrs. Hodges', Mrs. Shelby's and Ms. K's classrooms tonight.  We will be talking about Number talks, Reader's and Writer's Workshop.  You will spend about 10 min. in each classroom!
